Javier is known for his eclectic mix of projects, including the 2007 Oscar for best feature documentary, “An Inconvenient
Truth”. In addition to music videos, short films and online / viral campaigns, his traditional commercial work has garnered multiple
awards. In the last two years, Javier was recognized with 7 Telly Awards for his editing work on ESPN, Starbucks, Human
Rights Coalition, Mountain Dew and Comcast spots. He also has extensive experience in long-form advertising, and testimonial
driven projects with complex dialogue editing.
Javier credits many of his early influences in advertising. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and TBWA/Chiat/Day in San
Francisco, is where Javier had the fortune to work with many top creative minds in the industry. As a Film Studies major at U.C.
Berkeley, Javier began exploring editing as an intern at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, and subsequently was hired full time.
TBWA/Chiat/Day in San Francisco is where Javier began as assistant editor, working on Levi’s, Pets.com and Sony PlayStation.
Cut + Run / L.A., is where Javier had his start as full-fledged editor. In six years at Cut + Run, Javier had the privilege to
work alongside veteran editors Jay Nelson and Dan Swietlik. As an editor, having worked on over 100 different projects and
dozens of unique clients, Cut + Run has served as an important chapter in Javier’s career.
Recently, Javier completed a 30 minute “docu-sitcom”, a pilot episode for a television project currently in market. A feature
documentary promo that Javier edited and helped produce, is also currently being marketed. A similar documentary promo that
he also edited and helped concept, was recently successfully financed and produced.
Currently, Javier is attached to edit an independent feature film, in which he will also serve as Associate Producer. The $10
million in independent financing was influenced in part by the short-film version of the project, which Javier edited.
When Javier isn’t working, he enjoys snowboarding, camping, exploring new music, and spending time with his wife Katy
and their first child, Grace; who joined the family in November 2007.
